Monday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers on Pause Open Forum

The Florida Panthers were scheduled to play the New York Rangers tonight in what would have been the start of the final homestand of the 2019-20 regular season, encompassing games 80-82. Florida beat the Rangers 6-5 in a shootout at Madison Square Garden on November 10 and then posted a 4-3 win over the Broadway Blueshirts six days later at the BB&T Center with Evgenii Dadonov’s late second period goal standing as the game-winner thanks to a 30-save performance from Sergei Bobrovsky.

One wonders what the state of the club would’ve been heading into the final week of the season. Would the Panthers still be fighting tooth and nail with the Toronto Maple Leafs for third place in the Atlantic Division? Trying to squeak into the postseason via a wild card spot? Or would we have already turned our eyes to the 2020 NHL Entry that was schedule to take place at Bell Centre in Montreal on the weekend of June 26–27?

There is an article on Sportsnet right now that covers the 1919 Stanley Cup Final which was canceled due to the Spanish Flu pandemic and the death of Montreal’s Joe Hall. A very interesting reading in light of what is going on today. (Sportsnet)

Would the Panthers have won tonight’s game against the Rangers?
