The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Moritz Seider to an entry-level contract. Seider is the first German player to be selected in the first round (sixth overall) of the NHL Entry Draft.
Seider played last season with Adler Mannheim in the Deutsch Eishockey Liga, producing two goals and four assists in 29 games and was named Rookie of the Year. In 14 postseason games, Seider amassed five assists to help his club claim the DEL championship.
If Seider makes the team out of training camp, the Florida Panthers will get its first look at him on November 2, in Sunrise.
Another rookie from the 2019 draft class signed an entry-level contract yesterday and that was Los Angeles Kings defenseman Tobias Bjornfoot. Bjornfoot was taken with the 22nd overall pick by the Kings.
The 18-year-old appeared in 39 games last season with Djurgardens J20 of the SuperElit league in Sweden. He posted 22 points (11G/11A), a +15 rating and 14 penalty minutes while also being named the assistant captain.
Bjornfot also made his debut in Sweden’s top league (SHL)  appearing in seven regular-season games with Djurgardens, going scoreless with two PIM.
