Notes:

With five games remaining, the Panthers need one more win to set a new franchise-record for most victories in a season. The club is four points away from breaking the record for most points (98) set by the 1999-00 squad. Florida’s magic number for clinching a playoff spot remains at three due to Detroit’s 3-2 win over Minnesota and Boston’s 6-5 win over St. Louis. A win tonight and a Red Wings loss in Toronto puts the Cats in the postseason. Rookie Logan Shaw was returned to the Portland Pirates yesterday.

NHL.com Preview:

Montreal right wing Brendan Gallagher returns Saturday. He missed the past 12 games because of a lower-body injury sustained March 5. Gallagher will play with center Alex Galchenyuk and left wing Max Pacioretty. “Our first game together I got hurt, so it will be nice to hopefully stick together here for a little while,” Gallagher said Friday in a video on the Canadiens website. Yahoo.com Preview:

The Panthers, who avoided a third straight loss at home, will try to pick up another victory there before opening a three-game trip. Four of Florida’s remaining games are against teams eliminated from playoff contention. Two of those are against Montreal (36-36-6), which nonetheless has won two straight as it seemingly embraces the spoiler role. The Canadiens defeated desperate Detroit 4-3 on Tuesday before knocking off the Lightning. (More)
